SONA 2022: Ramaphosa expected to give timelines for reforms, urged to address state capture report

President Cyril Ramaphosa

President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to deliver the 2022 State of the Nation Address (SONA) on the back of security concerns, rampant corruption and fraud, rising unemployment and a strained fiscus.

Security concerns have been exacerbated by the fire that gutted large sections of Parliament, and the damning findings contained in a report of a panel of experts appointed to probe the reasons behind the July 2021 unrest that factional battles within the ANC have become a serious source of instability.

The state capture inquiry report and the SIU probe into government’s R14.3bn Covid-19 spending have also raised questions on the unchecked raise in the levels of corruption and fraud in the public sector.
